"We already have a website that does this. What's the value in this software?" Glad you asked! If you didn't read our May article "Computer Vision Applied to Ski Snow Cams," it might not be that clear. This software is a bit of computer code meant to save ski resorts time and money. Do you currently employ a person to input the snow totals? How much do you pay that person? Are they reliable? Could they be doing other, more productive tasks?
Right now reporting snowfall totals is an incredibly manual, outdated process reported once a day early in the morning to catch the radio report. But we're in the digital age, where computers should be reporting out snowfall automatically. Think of the savings! Mobalysis' code watches webcams and "knows" when snow is falling then notifies skiers / snowboarders who signed up - simple. The users choose when they want to be notfied: when snowfall reaches a certain rate? when it reaches a certain total? everyday at 2:00am?
When I first moved to Denver eight years ago, I couldn't wait to try out the area's many skiing options, but routine got in the way - job hunting, socializing with friends / family, grad school. I didn't make it out to the mountains until three years after moving to Colorado! By the time the morning radio report told me that local ski resorts got a fresh 3" last the previous night, I was already pulling up to work - too late to take a snow day. That's why we made this software. It creates a "call to action" letting locals know the mountains are getting snow in real-time. So often Denver stays sunny while Breck, Loveland, and A-Basin are getting pounded. I thought, "Wouldn't it be nice if I could know as soon as each of these places started getting hit?". Now you can! As soon as accumulation occurs on the resort's webcam, our software notifies those signed up via text, social, or email. We can even send animated pics of the time-lapsed stake cam!
There's also built in code for it to upload live, fully animated video feeds from the webcams to digital displays at Denver Airport or digital kiosks downtown so travelers would start seeing adds as soon as they de-plane or are sitting in a local restaurant eating brunch; "Wanna take a snow day? Looks like Vail is getting snow."
As an initial, promotional deal, we're only charging the cost of a season pass when a resort signs up. That means it only takes one season ticket holder to cover the cost of notifying all skiers the instant snow falls on the mountain. That's what we call a no-brainer. Sign up today, Colorado 2016 - 2017 ski / snowboarding season starts Friday at A-basin! ■
